I am fascinated with “normal” subjects depicted abnormally to contextualize mood.Source: http://hifructose.com/2014/07/23/valles-heads-series-dissects-the-intricacies-of-our-facial-expressions/
"Although many writers had had periods of significant depression, mania, or hypomania, they were consistently appealing, entertaining, and interesting people. They had led interesting lives, and they enjoyed telling me about them as much as I enjoyed hearing about them. Mood disorders tend to be episodic, characterized by relatively brief periods of low or high mood lasting weeks to months, interspersed with long periods of normal mood (known as euthymia to us psychiatrists). All the writers were euthymic at the time that I interviewed them, and so they could look back on their periods of depression or mania with considerable detachment. They were also able to describe how abnormalities in mood state affected their creativity. Consistently, they indicated that they were unable to be creative when either depressed or manic."- The relationship between creativity and mental illness – a fascinating study based on writers from the prestigious Iowa Writers’ Workshop. Kurt Vonnegut was among the subjects. (via explore-blog)
February 2014 (Pencil) vs July 2014 (Colored Pencils)
A Selection of SketchDaily Submissions (July 2014)
— I started on the 1st of July. I tried my hand at digital art and sucked. :p Here are my favorite works. I’ll be posting them on Tumblr as I draw…
Reddit Gets Drawn Submissions (June 2014)
— This was my tri-weekly drawing practice for last month. I was going to queue them…but I’d really rather just dump them in a lump. :) I’ll be making better ones soon, anyway.
The moderators chose my portrait of u/Garbanian, the bearded drag queen, as a favorite. :3 *proud*
"Carla," Soft Pastels, A4 (2014)
— My first paid commission. :) I loved drawing it because of all the tattoos. I sent it all the way to Sweden. Good times
Sad Girl, Colored Pencils, 12”x18” (April 2014)
— Again, copied off Harper’s Bazaar. I used Faber-Castell pencils and regular sketchpaper.
Random Paintings 2013-present
— I didn’t finish a lot of them. Haha
"Jessica," Colored Pencils, 8.5x11 (2014)
— My first commission for a friend. Actually, it was more of an art swap. :) Yay!
"Queen Beekeeper," Oil Pastels on Felt Paper
— based on a 2005 picture of an Alexander McQueen collection featured in Harper’s Bazaar.
